STEM Lab
New for the 2024/2025 at School 10 is a full fledged STEM class in 3rd-8th Grade taught by Mr. Hayes. Along with this new position came many new resources, equipment, and opportunity for our students. See below for some examples of the activities completed in STEM class.
Keychain Design Project
Students were asked to create their very own keychain using their knowledge of 3D Design and Tinkercad.
Students were first introduced t0 3D Design in Engineering and 'form' as it relates to Art. Most importantly they learned that complex shapes/designs often come from combining a few simple shapes/designs.
Student then began the creative process by creating a paper sketch both in 2D and 3D to plan their design. Here they learned how to draw basic shapes in 3D.
After creating a prototype design on paper students used Tinkercad to create .stl/.obj files that can be 3D printed. Students moved, created, rearranged, and modified both new and pre-existing shapes to create their final design.
The projects were then sent and printed by Mr. Hayes on the MakerBoth Sketch 3D printers.

Area and Perimeter Project
Area and Perimeter of School 10:
Students went onto Google Earth to take a screenshot of School 10 and the lot it is on. Students then used this picture, along with a unit scale, to calculate the length and perimeter of the School 10 lot. Then students used their length and width to calculate the total area and perimeter of the School 10 lot. See some pictures below from various grades.

Website Design: School 10 Redesign
Students in Grades 6-8 created a Google Sites website. They acted as architects who have been given the task of redesigning the School 10 building and surrounding area. Students utilized prior knowledge on Area and Perimeter of the school to begin their planning. From there they researched other schools for inspiration. See the links below to visit a few of the School 10 Redesign websites.
